Albert V. Armstrong Jr. “Mike” Rochester: Monday, April 20, 2026 at age 69. Predeceased by his parents, Albert Sr. and Mary Ruth; sisters, Melanie, Jeanne, Betty Jo and Kathy; and nephew, Shane. Survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Shaw, Michelle (Ken) Johnson and Heather (Jeff) Simons; grandchildren, Karolynn, Adam, Keegan and Kellen; brothers, Tom (Janice) and Bill (Carol); and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mike lived his entire life in the Rochester area—and somehow managed to make it feel like the center of the universe. He never met a stranger, mostly because he refused to let anyone stay one. Whether you bumped into him at a game, on a walk, or in line at Wegmans, you were guaranteed a story, an opinion, or a detailed retelling of the time that exact same thing happened to him. And he’d deliver it all with that unmistakable Mike flair. Mike was a lifelong sports lover, the kind who didn’t just watch games—he participated from the couch with the intensity of a man convinced the Buffalo Bills could hear him through the TV. A self proclaimed armchair quarterback, he rotated through his collection of “lucky shirts” with the seriousness of a head coach choosing a starting lineup. For years he held season tickets to the Rochester Amerks and the Rochester Red Wings, cheering loudly, loyally, and often. When he wasn’t coaching from the living room, you could find him walking Cobbs Hill or working out at the Y with his brother—two routines he treated with the same dedication he gave to sports. And if he wasn’t moving, he was listening. Mike was an avid music fan, the kind who didn’t just enjoy concerts but collected them like chapters of his life. Most people who knew him could point to at least one show they’d shared with him, and probably a few stories they still laugh about. But of all his passions, none came close to the joy he found in being a grandfather. His grandkids were his world, and he showed up for them with a devotion that became his signature. Fishing in a creek, freezing at a football game, cheering through basketball, baseball, track meets that lasted all of ten seconds, choir concerts, band concerts—you name it, he was there. His motto was simple: “Someone should be there. Why not me?” And he meant it every single time. Mike lived big, loved big, and made sure the people around him felt it. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and moments that will be retold for years—often starting with, “Remember when Mike…” His presence was unmistakable, his heart was generous, and his absence will be felt deeply by everyone lucky enough to have been part of his orbit.
