Ruben Saltares Chili: Thursday, October 3, 2024 at age 72. Predeceased by his parents, German and Milagros; and brother, Jesus. Survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; children, Ruben A. (Damaris), Lorraine (Jermaine) Vargas, Elaine (Paulo) Hernandez and Richard M. (Jessica); grandchildren, Selena, Alexsis, Jocelyn, Jonathan, Anthony (Rebekah), Michael, Jayden, Vanessa, Amaris, Josiah and Aaron; siblings, Herman, Peter, Maria, Elizabeth, Moses, Ruthie, Milagros and Linda; brothers-in-law, Hector and Charlie; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Born to German and Milagros Saltares on December 17,1951 in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Ruben was the oldest of eleven children. In the early 1950’s, his family moved to the Bronx. He attended and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School. He began a career as a locksmith, leading up to owning his own business in Rochester, New York. On May 20th, 1972 Ruben married Evelyn Negron at Mission John 3:16, where they were faithful members for many years. Ruben & Evelyn took a step of faith with their children Ruben Anthony “Tito”, Lorraine & Elaine and moved to Rochester, New York to provide a better life for their family. They became members of the Light of The World Church under Rev, Luis D. Hernandez and supported the ministry in various roles. The Lord blessed them with their fourth child Richard Michael “Richie”. Ruben’s four children married and Ruben was blessed with four additional children, Paulo, Jermaine, Jessica & Damaris whom he cherished. He was most proud to be the Papa of Selena Denise, Alexsis Elaine, Jocelyn Evelyn, Jonathan Jermaine, Anthony Jeremiah (Rebekah), Michael Anthony, Jayden Ruben, Vanessa Denise, Amaris Jeanette, Josiah Joel and Aaron Jacob. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Ruben’s devotion was evident through his constant sacrifices to provide for his family. He owned a hardware store, and worked many side jobs to ensure his family never lacked. In 1988, Ruben made a career change and was hired as a School Safety Officer at the Rochester City School District and retired in 2010. Ruben enjoyed spontaneous road trips with his family. He would call Evelyn and tell her “pack up the kids” we are heading out this weekend. He loved the warm weather of Florida and the beaches of Rincon. Many cherished memories were created with his children and favorite girl, Evelyn, that are still spoken of today. Ruben was willing to assist anyone in need even when it was a difficult season in his life. He motivated others to push forward and make the very best of their situation. Even in the midst of his health ailments he provided encouragement and strength to his family and friends. He was generous, helpful, and a father to others. His faith in the Lord was evident in his life and he was a beloved member of Crossway Assembly, pastored by his Son. Left to treasure Ruben’s memories are his wife, children, grandchildren, grandpets, his siblings German Jr., Peter, Maria, Elizabeth, Moses, Ruthie, Milagros, and Linda, his brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and all those who he impacted throughout his life. Ruben peacefully went to be with the Lord in the early morning of October 3rd, 2024. Now he is in the presence of the Lord with his parents and brothers. He will be greatly missed and never to be forgotten." Family and friends may call Monday, October 7th from 4-7pm at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home.
