Mark D. Stevens

Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at age 66. Predeceased by his parents, William and Virginia; brother, Scott; and father-in-law, James Richardson. Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda; children, Stephanie (Adam) and Wes; siblings, Craig (Sharyn), Sue (Bill) Penn and Kevin (Jennifer); sisters-in-law, Nancy (Dennis) Corlew and Gail Craig; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mark was born on November 15, 1957 to William and Virginia Stevens. He is the second oldest of 5 children. His siblings include Craig, Sue, Scott and Kevin. As a child, he was always thinking of ways he could make money and would sell suckers and creepy crawlers on the bus. Mark met Linda in 1976. they married on April 27, 1979 and had two children. Stephanie, born on August4, 1982 and a son Wes, born on September 21, 1983. Mark loved being outdoors, enjoying everything from hunting and fishing to golfing and weekend chores. He trained 6-7 days per week and had completed a combined total of over 90 Iron Man triathlons and marathons. Mark found joy in his work at the S.B. Ashley Managment Corp. He started his career path as a groundskeeper and with hard work and determination, soon began working in the main office. He eventually became CEO and later a partner to Stephen B. Ashley. Marks position was to oversee the managed properties while acquiring new ones. He was not only very successful at what he did, he also loved it. He always said " if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life". In recent years, Mark and Linda enjoyed spending time at their second home in La Quinta, California after a lifetime in New York. With renewed interests and newfound friendships, they felt instantly at home. Mark battled melanoma for two years with no luck in any received treatments. Regardless of this, he fought with all he had and maintained a sense of grace and optimism that inspired those around him. He died at Strong Memorial Hospital on April 23rd at 12:58 am. He was known for his sense of humor, generosity and involvement with many charities. He will be remembered fondly and missed by everyone lucky enough to know him. Family and friends may call Saturday, May 11th from 1-3pm at the Leo M .Bean and Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
