June Gmelin Stohr

On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, June Gmelin Stohr, loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was 91. June was born on July 18, 1929 in Rochester, NY to Marie and William Gmelin. She graduated from Irondequoit High School in 1947. She married Frederick G. Stohr on May 10, 1952, with whom she enjoyed nearly 57 years of marriage. They raised three children, Susan, Jim, and Tricia, in the house they built on Vroom Road. June was a homemaker with a passion for children, caring for numerous young people over the years. She loved big band music and was known for her ability to talk to anyone at any time about anything, as well as for her love of laughter. She adored her grandchildren and often spoiled them with chocolate chip cookies and Smarties®. She made the best cutout cookies during the holiday season. Her family was her greatest love. June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Jack and Bill. She is survived by her children, Susan (Craig), Jim (Cathy), and Tricia (Ed), six grandchildren, Colby (Brian), Colin, Zachary (Morgan), Katherine, AJ (Samantha) and William, two great grandchildren, Kennedy and Landon, beloved brothers Bob (Donna) and Tom, sister Ann Marie (Kevin), sister-in-law Anne Gmelin, and many, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to list but much-loved. Having made her home for nearly eight years at St. John's Home, she considered many of the nurses, aides, staff, and residents her extended family. June was particularly grateful for the friendship, care, and support of Connie Dubuc, and St. John's staff, especially Naja Harvey, Tammy Boorum, Harmony Irwin and Colleen McCarthy. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 534 Oxford St, Rochester, NY 14607. The family will receive friends outside the church before the service, beginning at 9:30 am. A private interment will follow.
