Mark W. Becker
November 7, 2021
Mark Wayne Becker, beloved uncle of Barb Smith and Lynn Springle, passed peacefully in his home on Sunday, November 7, 2021, age 77. Mark attended St. Johnsbury Academy, Vermont, and then joined the Navy, where he served as a radio man in the Vietnam War. He did varied work in his lifetime - bus mechanic, property management, long-haul trucking. Mark was also a passionate supporter and long-time volunteer at WXXI. Mark was an incredibly versatile and accomplished man, whose talents ran from fine cooking to strip canoe building, from woodworking to backyard pond construction. He was artistic too - he loved music, especially classical, and he took beautiful photographs, some of which he then reproduced as paintings. Above all though, Mark was a teacher. He was beyond generous with his considerable knowledge, and considered it his legacy to pass on as much as he could in his lifetime. He touched more lives in this way than we can say. Mark was predeceased by his beloved sister, Lois Smith and parents, Melvin and Viola. In addition to his nieces, he is survived by nephew, David Smith (Jenni), nephew, Bruce Smith (Tami), and great-nieces, Sarah Smith, Emma Smith and Brianna Smith. In honor of Mark's wishes, no service will be held. Memorials may be made to WXXI or the IPF Foundation.
