Flora Bennett Whitney Bergen - Friday, April 24, 2020 at age 80. Predeceased by her husband, Walter "Stoney" and brother, Roger. Survived by her children, Patrick, Michael, Denise (Eric) Hobron and Colleen; grandchildren, April, Patrick, Jennifer, Nicholas, Jessica, Brittney and Marissa; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ron (Anne) Bennett, Rita (Gary) Yachett, David (Elke) Bennett, Tom Bennett, Greg (Penny) Bennett; sisters-in-law, Tina Bennett and Shirley (Jack) McCauley; brother-in-law, Tom (Angie) Whitney; and several nieces and nephews. Flora adored all of her family. Flora was the oldest of seven siblings; Ron, Roger, Rita, David, John, Tom and Greg. So, there was no shortage of aunts, uncles, cousins, grand children and great grand children. Flora and Stoney had four children; Pat, Denise, Mike and Colleen who all had children of their own. The grand children are April, Jennifer, Patrick, Nicholas, Jessica, Britney, and Marissa. And of course the great grand children; Angelena, Bianca, AJ, and Willa. We can't forget to mention the challenging relationship with her cat Buddy...lots of love there too. Every major holiday was spent at her home with as many family members as possible crammed in to enjoy the festivities. She looked forward to preparing tons of food and making everything just so. It was her passion to gather with family, even if it was just for tacos at a quick Sunday supper. Flora was ever independent and active in so many social events, clubs and the church. She was a life-long volunteer and care giver, the most generous person we know. She loved completing and sharing puzzles as well as playing cards with family or friends. Travelling and going on vacation here and abroad were quite pleasurable for her. She was a "snow bird" for years riding, or driving occasionally, to and around Florida with friends. Flora was a resident of the Hidden Meadows community in Bergen. She was so fond of the people in the community and was inspired to serve on the board. She cherished all of the club house and community activities including pot luck dinners with a special affection for Saturday morning breakfast socials. Monday night bingo games fulfilled her love of gambling, especially when she won. Gatherings and outings with the local members of the Red Hat Society were delightful, to use her words. Flora was devoted to her faith and enjoyed it's many facets, including being a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Holy Ghost parish since 1955 and attended mass weekly as well as holidays until recently when that was no longer possible. She became friendly with a few other women who dubbed themselves the "Merry Widows." They frequently gathered for breakfast after Sunday mass where conversation became a therapy of sorts. She was an avid reader which made her involvement with the Faith Sharing Book Club so enjoyable. She often read several books a week and then shared or exchanged them with other bibliophiles to appreciate. Flora's love for all was contagious and made everyone she knew love her in return. We all miss her immensely and will never forget her affection for us. We honor Flora by carrying on her generosity and love of family and friends. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Flora's life will be planned and scheduled as soon as current events allow.
