David A. Altobelli

Passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 at age 74. Predeceased by his son, Adam; and brother, Mark. Survived by his wife of 47 years Maryanne; brother, James (Barbara); niece, Christie (Ryan) Balys; nephews, Matt and Paul Altobelli and Troy Ansted of FL; brother-in-law, Tom Henner of NYC; many cousins and dear friends. David graduated from Gates Chili high school where he was an All County running back on the football team. After graduation he attended Findley College and then finished his degree in teaching at Geneseo College. He was involved in coaching his son Adam’s soccer games and the girls high school soccer and softball teams. David was a mentor and friend to many; our nephew, Troy Ansted and our property assistant, Ariel Perez both worked alongside him to manage our homestead. They would sit together during break times and share life lessons from David. Thank you to his many friends who assisted along this journey over the past three and a half years since his diagnosis. A special thank you to our dear friends from East Aurora, Linda and Michael Smith, who were at our side every step of the way. We enjoyed our trips together during this time. David was a long-time, dedicated member of his local teacher’s union. He was a highly respected building representative and a popular member of many union committees. He co-founded the union’s professional development program and was a mentor to new teachers for many years. David didn’t slow down after he retired. He became the director of the union’s political action fundraising program. He successfully increased member participation through his enthusiasm and hard work. David was loved and admired by his many union friends and will long be remembered for his remarkable career as a teacher and unionist. David enjoyed travel with his wife, Maryanne, for many years internationally as well as daily trips to surrounding areas. He enjoyed a good life that he was grateful for and loved sharing it with his many friends who he got together with on a regular basis. David loved cooking and was proud of his dedication to his house and property. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, April 25th at 10am at Spiritus Christi Church, 121 N. Fitzhugh Street, Rochester, NY 14614. Interment, White Haven Memorial Park.
