William Albert Dykstra

William Albert Dykstra, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. William was the beloved husband of Patricia M. Dykstra; the son of Albert and Marie Dykstra; and the brother of Michael Dykstra and Barbara Leyda. A graduate of Rutgers University, William earned his Bachelor's Degree in Botany and Horticulture in 1964. During his youth, he was active in sports, participating in football, baseball, basketball, and track. Throughout his life, he remained a devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. William was a passionate fisherman who competed in numerous bass tournaments each year, finding peace and joy on the water. He dedicated decades of service to the town of Henrietta as Director of Parks and Recreation, where his love for nature, conservation, and community left a lasting impact. His passion for gardening and the outdoors was evident in everything he did, and his appreciation for the beauty of nature inspired those around him. One of William's greatest blessings was meeting the love of his life, Patricia. Their story began one special evening at a college dance. During their courtship, William would leave a beautiful rose on a table as a guide, leading Patricia to the library where he waited for her. What began with a rose blossomed into a lifetime of love. They were married in November 1964 and shared 61 wonderful years together. William was a proud and devoted father to Sharon, Thomas, William, and Kelly. He was a cherished grandfather to Chris, Brittany, Joshua, Esther, Gregory, Michael, Benedict, Lydia, Isabella, Leo, Teresa, Mary Rose, and Veronica, and a loving great-grandfather to Taylor, Savannah, Allie, and Cyrus. To those who knew him, William was a source of strength, guidance, and unconditional love. His stories, laughter, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched countless lives and will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the community he served, and the memories he created with all who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in imagining that somewhere beyond this life, William has already placed a rose on a table, waiting patiently for his bride, just as he did so many years ago. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
