Richard "Dick" Pickard

Richard “Dick” Pickard passed away at age 82 on March 12, 2023. Dick was the son of Neal and Teodora “Dotty” (Koziel) Pickard, who owned Dot and Neals Soda Shop in Perry NY, where Dick worked all thru school and college. Dick is brother to James (Ann Marie) Pickard and Marsha (Wayne) Hurlburt. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna (Szczepanowski) Pickard, his daughter, Denise (Ryan) Morgan and sons, David (Julie) Pickard and Douglas (Julianne) Pickard. His pride and joy were his six grandchildren, Ashley and Willow Pickard, Justin and Skylar Pickard, and Natalie and Jeffery Morgan. Dick is a graduate of the class of 1958 of Perry Central School and class of 1963 Brockport State College. He started teaching 5th grade Math and Science in Kinderhook NY for 2 years, then taught 5th grade Math and Science at Brockport Central until he retired in 1995. However, he always kept that wonderful 5th grade sense of humor! After he retired, Richard and Donna enjoyed traveling with AAA tours. His favorite trips were Alaska on a Small-ship Cruise, Canyon Lands tour, featuring Brice Zion and the Grand Canyon, and the last one which was a tour to New England up to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Dick loved fishing, hunting, long walks in the woods, and reading. He took pride in his vegetable garden and pride in his 1 acre “Pickard Park” property (currently maintained by his sons) and home where he and his wife lived in Chili NY for 43 years. In 2011 they moved into a patio home and enjoyed being part of the Mayflower Village retirement community in North Chili, members at the new Chili Sr Center, members of St Christopher's Church and are currently members at St Pius Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to calling hours Thursday 3/30/23 from 4-7pm at Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home at 2771 Chili Ave Rochester NY 14624. Richard’s Funeral Mass will be at St Pius Tenth Church, 3000 Chili Ave. Rochester, NY 14624 at 11 am on Friday 3/31/23. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Golisano Children’s Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave. AC-6. Rochester, NY 14642 or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester at the same address.
