Mary P. Keane

Mary P. Keane Passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026. Predeceased by her husband, Philip; son, Kevin; siblings, Martin (Bridget Christina) Walsh, Helen Lyons, and Elizabeth (John) Feeley; niece, Ann Marie Feeley; and nephews, Gerard Walsh and Michael Keane. Survived by her children, Mary (Ronald) Hull, Philip (Joanne) Keane and Brian Keane (Andrew Schwartz); grandchildren, Timothy Hull, Haley Keane (Rufino Gonzalez), Madeline (Clayton) Baumgart, and Philip Tiernan Keane; great-grandchild, Maeve Gonzalez; siblings, Susan Walsh Conway (Ireland) and Patrick Walsh (Australia); many nieces and nephews in the US, UK and Australia; as well as her friends from the Ogden Senior Center, the Chili Senior Center and College Greene. Special thanks to nieces, Delia (Jim) Keane and Siobhain Feeley (Ben) Goss for their love and support. Mary was born in Lahinch, County Clare, on April 25, 1931. She was the second of seven children of Patrick Walsh and Elizabeth Morgan. Her father was a blacksmith whose forge was located behind their home, Iona Lodge. In June of 1949, Mary left Ireland bound for America on The Washington. When she arrived in America, she lived with her father’s sister who had worked as a maid for George Eastman. She met Philip Keane of Crossmolina, County Mayo, at an Irish dance in Rochester and they married on July 12, 1952. Together they raised their four children while building a good life in the US. The door was always open to family who came from Ireland. Their kids’ friends were also welcomed to meals and family activities. Mary and Phil also made time to go to Irish dances whenever possible and were quite a sight floating around the dance floor at places like the Hibernian and Harps clubs. In addition to taking care of her own four, Mary did a lot to take care of two families of young kids whose mothers had died. She volunteered with the Spencerport Sports Boosters and did a stint as a Cub Scout den mother. She was a prolific and talented knitter who could make Aran fisherman knit sweaters without a pattern, while watching TV. Later she turned to knitting hats for friends, for premature babies, cancer patients and other people in need. When she wasn’t taking care of family and neighbors, Mary also worked for a while in the cafeteria at the Rochester School for the Deaf and as a home health aide. After Phil passed away in 1990 Mary became active in the St. John’s Bereavement Support Group, then the Ogden Senior Center and the Chili Senior Center. In addition to being a member, she also volunteered for various duties and firmly established her reputation as a euchre “shark.” Mary was also known as very lucky at bingo and slot machines. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she recently welcomed her first great-grandchild, Maeve. Everyone who visited Mary in recent weeks was treated to lots of photos of Maeve. Everyone in her circle experienced her practical jokes at one time or another and there was always a quick-witted remark to get people smiling and laughing. She met the most difficult situations with humor and was even playing jokes on her caretakers. Family and friends may call Thursday, March 19th from 4-7pm. Funeral Mass Friday 10am at St. Christopher’s, 3350 Union St. N. Chili, NY 14514. Interment, St. John’s Cemetery, Spencerport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aurora House, 2495 S. Union St. Spencerport, NY 14559.
