JoAnn Marie Walter Kindler

Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at age 74. Predeceased by her husband, Richard; parents, Elmer and Marie Walter; brother, Elmer Jr.; and granddaughter, Sarah Marie. Survived by her son, David (Trisha) Kindler; daughter, Michelle (Justin) May; grandchildren, Abram, Elsie and Adler; sisters, Mary Ann Walter and Carol (Paul) Bookmiller; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. JoAnn was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and wonderful friend. She grew up on Marlow St. and went to school around the corner at Holy Family. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School. After graduation, JoAnn went to work at RG&E, which led to her meeting the love of her life, Richard, through her coworker. JoAnn stayed at home to raise her kids, then returned to work as a jack of all trades at St. Helen's rectory and then moved on to work at Fleet Motor Cross until she retired. JoAnn made many wonderful and lasting friendships throughout this time. Her true pride and joy was becoming Air Nana to her grandkids, even though she always wanted to be called grandma, but at least the granddogs knew her as grandma. JoAnn developed a love of sewing frim her mother and became an amazing seamstress, making everything from Halloween costumes and wedding dresses to doll clothes and felt food for her grandkids. When it came to her grandkids, anything was a possibility. If the kids could imagine it, Air Nana could create it, no matter what it was. Whether it was a fried egg Halloween costume or a hoodie for a Beanie Baby bear, Air Nana figured out how to make it. Craft projects with her grandkids was always top priority on any visit. No trip to Missouri was complete without her project bag full of projects that could be done with the kids. JoAnn loved to travel as long as it was by car. Flying was out of the questions. She and Richard travelled all over, both by themselves and with JoAnn's mom, Marie. Richard would drive her anywhere as long as they ate well along the way. After Richard died, JoAnn continued her travels with David and Trisha and made many bus trips with her sisters and brothers. After Richard passed, being alone didn't stop her from going and doing things. She continued to make the trips to Missouri and New Jersey to spend time with her kids and grandkids. JoAnn loved to shop with her sister. Carol and JoAnn went shopping every Wednesday for years. Even after that tradition stopped, they found an excuse to go out shopping or eating together. Family was always important to JoAnn. The strong bond with her brother and sisters stayed through to the very end. Everyone always knew where to find the Walter siblings on Sunday afternoon, it was just a matter of which house they were at that week. She will be terribly missed, but we are glad she is at peace and reunited with the love of her life, Richard. Family and friends may call Monday 11am-1pm at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home.
