Elizabeth A. Hodownes "Betty"

Elizabeth A. Hodownes “Betty” Chili: Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at age 93. Survived by her husband of 74 years, Stephen; children, Steve (Robin) and David (Sharon); grandchildren, Ryan (Bea White), Dylan (Fernanda), Abby (Steve Powers), Nick, Teddy and Ellie; and great-grandchildren, Ian and Evelyn. Betty grew up in Brooklyn New York and worked as a secretary for an abstract firm. She married Stephen Hodownes on September 1, 1952, after a chance meeting in Central Park. Steve and Betty were blessed with two children, six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Betty was a wonderful mother caring for her sons full-time while Steve was on the road weekly to provide for the family. She immersed herself in her role with loving support and corrective action exactly when needed, opening her home and yard to the boy’s many friends. Once grandchildren entered the picture, she was always available to babysit, visit, shop with, and love them. She loved each one and supported their endeavors whether it be sports, music, or dancing. Simply stated, Betty was there for all. Whenever we needed her. Betty was quick and generous with her encouragement of others. Her hobbies varied over the years from ceramics in the 70’s to creating flower arrangements for all her friends in the 80’s. She was a master with a glue gun in her hands. She also loved afternoons with her friends playing the slots in the local casinos. She could make a roll of pennies last for hours! Betty always had a smile on her face and made others happy. It was not uncommon for her to walk up to a stranger and say, “you’re beautiful” or she “loved your voice”. That was just Betty. Kind and sweet to all, never did an unkind word pass her lips. Betty has always been a faithful follower of Jesus and lived her life as a true Christian. She loves God and is now in heaven, pain free and in awe of His Majesty and Light alongside her parents. We will miss you every day. Family and friends may call Saturday, January 10th from 10am-12pm at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral Service to immediately follow at 12pm at the funeral home. Interment, Westside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friendly Home, 3156 East Avenue Rochester, NY 14618.
