Elizabeth Jeanne Arthur

Arthur, Elizabeth Jeanne Scottsville: Our beloved mother, entered into eternal rest on January 30, 2015. For those who knew and loved her, "rest" was not her "thing". She spent her life working for, creating and giving to others, especially her family. Her favorite saying was "A man's work is from dawn to dusk, but a woman's work is never done." Elizabeth Jeanne Taylor Arthur was born in 1930, the seventh of eight children. After losing her mother at an early age, she attended Holy Ghost Grammar School and Nazareth Academy. At Nazareth she was a member of the select Perosian Choir. Upon graduation, she worked at Kodak and RG&E. During this time, she met her lifelong sweetheart, John. She and John settled in Scottsville where they raised their family. Jeanne developed a broad appreciation for the arts. She was a gifted soprano who sang in various church choirs: St. Mary's Scottsville, St. Mary's Downtown, St. Catherine's in Mendon, The Diocesan Choir, and the Ecumenical choir in Scottsville. Highlights included singing for Bishop Clark and Pope John Paul II. She was asked to sing at weddings and funerals of friend and relatives, most often singing the Ave Maria, which moved many to tears. As a talented painter, she enjoyed capturing memories from her travels. She was an excellent seamstress. She often surprised her daughters with beautiful Barbie doll outfits and even made a sail for John's sailboat! Jeanne's greatest joy was caring for her family, creating a welcoming home, nurturing her gardens and hosting incredible parties! All who knew her, appreciated her zest for life. She was forever young. She will be forever missed. A true lady. Jeanne was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, John; siblings, Wilson, Dorothy, Gordon, Richard, Alice and Robert. She is survived by her children, Margaret (Ray) Miraglia, Peter (Sally) Arthur, Joan Arthur and Dr. Liz Arthur (Michael Kolozvary grandchildren, Nicholas (Annie) Miraglia, Jeanette Miraglia, Natalie, Jillian and Allison Arthur, and Abigail and Evan Arthur-Kolozvary; her great-granddaughter Adriana Miraglia; sister, Marjorie Carbone; sister-in-law, Kay Brooks, and brother-in law, Maurice (Sharon) Arthur; special nieces, Mary and Lori, special nephew Rob, and many other nieces and nephews; dear friends, close friend Bonnie and her sweet dog, Molly. Friends may call at the Leo M Bean and Sons Funeral Home Friday from 3-7 PM. Funeral Mass Saturday, 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 99 Main Street, Scottsville, NY. Internment Holy Angels. In lieu of the flowers the family requests donations be made in Jeanne's name to Church Renovation: Abbey of the Genesee, 3258 River Road, Piffard, NY 14533.
