Eileen Marie (Salls) Olver It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished mother Eileen Marie Olver (Salls) on November 2, 2024. Eileen, known as Neen to her family and friends, was born on January 3, 1945 in Fulton, NY, to Guy and Janice (Barton) Salls. Neen's life was marked by her remarkable compassion, persistence and fierce love for family and friends. Forever a tomboy, Neen’s tenacity and determination made her a force to be reckoned with. She embraced challenges, especially those that others believed couldn’t be done. After graduating from Roberts Wesleyan College, Neen pursued a career in education. She became a seasoned educator, dedicating over 30 years to teaching second and third grades in the Byron Bergen School District. She frequently recalled her students with fondness, sharing stories of their achievements. Neen took particular satisfaction in assisting those who faced challenges, tailoring her lessons to promote their learning. Every year, Neen would take great pleasure in dressing her Christmas tree with the troves of ornaments students had gifted to her, recounting the time they had spent together. Neen dedicated her life to her family. She was a devoted wife, supporting her husband Mel as he pursued his goals, spending time at their camp in the Adirondacks and during his medical challenges. She adored her children and grandchildren, finding immense joy in their company and delighting in their growth and development. She passed on her strong will and resilience, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with confidence. Her most recent joy was the birth of her first great grandchild, Kathryn. She looked forward to experiencing life anew through her eyes. Along with her family, Neen loved spending time with friends. She had a quick wit and would often get a mischievous twinkle in her eye, always ready for a good laugh. She developed close friendships. Her laughter with her friends was often a testament to their inside jokes and close bonds. Neen also dedicated her time and found great joy serving and connecting with others through church groups and activities. Eileen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Melvin Lindsley Olver and her beloved sister, Linda Lee Testi. She is survived by her brother, Duane Salls, and children, Kristin (Scott) Jackson and Matthew (Laurie) Olver. “Nene” will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Madison (Stephen) and Carter Jackson, and Ryan and Adam Olver, as well as her first great-grandchild, Kathryn Lee, several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Family and friends may call on Sunday, November 10th from 12-2 pm at Leo M. Bean & Sons Funeral Home, 2771 Chili Ave, Rochester, NY 14624. A service will be held in her honor on Monday, November 11th at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Chili, 3600 Chili Ave, Rochester, NY 14624. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Chili for the Deacon's Fund.
