Betty Jean Jones (George)

Betty Jean Jones (George) passed peacefully on January 8, 2023. She was born on June 23, 1944, to the late Elizabeth George and Johnny C. George in Sanford, Florida. Their union produced four children: Sara Lee; Casey George (deceased); Delores Lovette (deceased), and Betty. Betty moved to Rochester, New York in 1955. She attended Madison High School, before meeting her husband of 61 years, John Henry Jones. From that union three beautiful children were born: Lawrence, Audrey, and Yvette. She was employed at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, from 1960 to 1969. She also worked at Bausch & Lomb until her retirement in 1998. Betty was baptized on May 28, 1978. She faithfully served as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 44 years and was very helpful in assisting many in becoming baptized. Prior to becoming ill, Betty enjoyed spending many hours working in the ministry alongside her dear friends of the Arnett Boulevard congregation. One of her greatest joys was seeing her daughter (Audrey) and grandson (Jesse) being baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her favorite kingdom melody was “Life Without End at Last,” and her favorite scripture is Revelation 21:3,4. Some of Betty’s favorite pastimes were spent playing spades, zap, and completing puzzle books. She was well known for the stylish way she dressed, and for her cooking skills. She was often sought after to make her famous chicken and dressing, collards, or oxtails. Betty and her husband John were the king and queen of swing dancing. She held very special relationships with her nieces, Debra and Stephany, who lovingly cared for her before she relocated to New Jersey; and Danella, who was like a special third daughter to her. Betty was very fond of her three children and especially proud of her grandchildren. One of the things she most looked forward to, was seeing her family members learn the truth and one day serve our loving Father, Jehovah God. ~ She leaves behind her husband, John; her children, Lawrence Jones, Audrey R. McCant (Eric); and Yvette Wilkins (Sylvester); seven (7) grandchildren (Aieshia, Anthony Jay, Johnathan, Jovan, Ashley, Jesse, & Daija); and five (5) great-grandchildren Janiya, Jaela, Edward “Teddy,” Aiden, and Elijah; her oldest sister, Sara Lee; many nieces and nephews (esp. Calvin Jr.); and a host of beloved family members and many dear friends (esp. Evon). Family and friends may call at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home Friday 4-7pm. Interment Saturday 1pm at Riverside Cemetery followed by her Funeral Service Saturday 3pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1037 S. Plymouth Ave. Rochester, NY 14608.
