Anita F. Hassett

Thursday, November 30, 2023 at age 70. Predeceased by her parents, James & Beatrice Ferris; and many aunts and uncles. Survived by her loving husband of 48 years, James; children, Stacia Hassett (Daniel Perez) and Stephen (Andrea) Hassett; grandchildren, Lea, Caden and Hannah; siblings, Diana (Jacob) Angelo, Mary (Hal) Julius, Gail (Mark) Cowie and James (Janice) Ferris; brother-in-law, Michael (Cheryl) Hassett; sister-in-law, Susan Hassett (Lynn Hardy); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Anita Ferris Hassett, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, and follower of Christ passed suddenly on November 30, 2023. Anita, who was recovering from knee surgery and facing a recurrence of her cancer, was unexpectedly overcome by a mysterious ailment. She was also a 17-year breast cancer survivor and a fighter in the face of her illness. She stayed strong and positive until the very end, with the help of her faith and surrounded by close family members. Born to the late James and Beatrice Ferris on April 26, 1953, she resided in the Rochester area for all her life. She grew up surrounded by three sisters, one brother, and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. The extended family lived close together and created strong bonds that remain to this day. She attended the Gates Chili school district, graduated in 1971, and then earned a two-year degree in medical laboratory technology from MCC. She spent her career as a medical lab tech and software test engineer. Anita met her husband of 48 years at Kodak where they both started their careers on the very same day. Together they had two children, Stacia and Stephen, and adored many dogs along the way. Anita cherished her family both immediate and extended and devoted her life to supporting every person she connected with. She was a faithful founding member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit, and a member of the Daughters of Penelope. Anita loved baking, known for her famous chocolate cookies, and making traditional Lebanese food for her loved ones. She had a passion for music and was an avid violinist. Her unwavering love, support, and generosity to all shaped who she was as a person. She has touched our hearts in many ways, and she will truly be missed. “The greatest joy in all of living is the joy that comes from freely giving.” Family and friends may call at the Leo M. Funeral Service Friday, December 8th at 10am at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit, 835 South Ave. Rochester, NY 14620. Interment, White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church, where she was a founding member.
